We made it to the Finals!

YES WE DID IT! Thanks to you, we made it to the finals!
Now we need your vote (AGAIN!) to help us make it to….

On Friday June 7th at 9:00 PM, we performed our song “El Pijul” for a packed Greene Room down in rainy SoHo. The audience’s response was truly overwhelming, and we made it to the finals! Please feel free to take a look, here. Now there are only 5 Manhattan finalists, and we need your vote between now and Sunday June 16th at 11:59 P.M. EST to make it to the ULTIMATE BATTLE. Please vote for Villalobos Brothers by sending a text message containing this exact word: MN12 to this number: 69866. If you don’t have a cellphone or live outside the United States, you can still vote! Please click here to vote for us before Sunday at 11:59 PM New York time. On Monday June 17th they will announce the winner of each borough.

“I loved your style of music. The blend was amazing, the band was tight, it kept me going… I felt like I was part of the band, except I was sitting out here. I didn’t understand a word you were saying, but I felt it! where can I buy your CD? For real!”

-Steve Pageot, Grammy® Award winner producer.

“Oh my God, that was fantastic! Let me tell you something, you guys transformed the environment of the venue…I was exactly where you wanted me to be. Your voices! You’re gonna get this reaction every time you play, and that is an amazing thing. Your music was a tidal wave of fire and it hit you really strong. You have excellent showmanship, but you also have the talent and skill to back it up.”

-Alicia Olatuja, mezzo-soprano.

“You guys have the talent and skill, but also there was fire, and part of why we wanted so much to give it up at the end is because you also held a little bit back from us… you had that one section that was very very quiet…so, again, 9 employed musicians?…. and chick on the drums? Yes, yes, yes! And you kicked our asses in 5/8, thank you very much”
-Helga Davis, award-winning vocalist & performance artist.

Now on it’s fourth season, the Battle of the Boroughs is a great opportunity for us to be heard by some of the leading musicians and executives in the field: Geri Allen, pianist; John Schaefer, host of Soundcheck; Wes Jackson, Executive Director of the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival; Christian McBride, bassist and composer; Nona Hendryx, singer, songwriter, and producer; Franco Iemmello, Capitol Records; Monique Martin of Summerstage; Chris Bannon of WNYC; Mike Rinzel of WQXR and more!

The winner of the final battle receives a featured concert in The Greene Space; a guest artist appearance at Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater; a live video webcast; a professional, multi-track recording session; a Tekserve package, including iPads; a professional photoshoot; and a produced music video.
